I`ve looked around online in an attempt at identifying what type of tree this is from the bark pattern without success. There is also a pic of the leaves below. Does anyone know what type it is-the bark is quite distinctive?
Beech tree. May be a ornamental cross.
If you are going to fell it or have it fell, get some one in who will be able to drop it and remove it.

I'd say with confidence it's a Beech tree. Smooth grey bark gives it away for me. Does it produce Beech mast, like nuts with a spiky shell quite small ?
Clearly the consensus of opinion here is that the tree is a Beech.
I need to take photos of the other tree that the Beech nuts fall from. This has left me a quite puzzled now, but I feel confident we will resolve the mystery between us shortly.
