Hi all im new here and im just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the swp 150 amp mig welder . I have a termal arc 175se inverter stick tig welder . I have a tig torch. But can i do more with the mig than the tig. Thinks lads or ladys
Hello John and welcome!
I guess it depends on what you are planning on welding with it? SWP looks good, good range too (30-150 amp) and i think the settings are quite easy to use...
I'm not really an expert on TIG tho, but i'm sure one of our members can tell you more!
Thank you . I allways loved the idea of tig . As it is very clean . I will post some of my welds when i get going and you guys can tell me what i need to change . I had a few sealey migs the 100 amp and the 150 i found them abit soft esp the drive feeds
TIG is more difficult for most people to get the hang of, especially scratch TIG which is the one you have, it is costlier than MIG to use and a bit fussier over cleanliness of material and angle/distance of the torch etc.
MIG is easier, more forgiving and the choice of most for car repairs and fabrication, gates, railings and the like.
I also have an inverter and one day plan to get kitted out and have a go at TIG, something I have never done even though I have welded all my life.
I can't give any accurate feedback on the SWP machines, I have never been within kicking distance of one so it would not be right to judge them, I don't think personally it is a make I would be buying if in the market for a new MIG, other brands seem to be more popular.
My local place has SWP boxes in and they seem sturdy and well made but I can't speak to their weld quality. The stealth black ones looks very nice in the flesh.
Almost but not quite. You have to touch the work with the tungsten in both cases. The difference is that scratch really is that, you drag the tip to get an arc (like you would with stick welding). With lift you rest the tungsten on the work and press the button. No arc is generated until you lift away from the work.
Lift is better than scratch but both pale compared to HF (high frequency) which is touchless.
If you're just getting started then scratch or lift will do you fine. Go for lift if there's a choice though.
Well how much is the 9ltr and how much is the 20ltr? 80 euro difference is a no brainer if the 9 is 200 euros. It also depends on how much you want to use. 9ltr Would vanish pretty quick for me so I use 30ltr and I go through 3 of them in a year. Bear in mind not sure if it's already been mentioned but in order to use your unit for both mig and tig you'll need 2 cylinders of gas. 1 argon and 1 Ar Co2/Co2.
All i have is a tig welder i had a few sealey migs and being honest i would much rather tig it is slower but its much cleaner . And the 1 bottle pretty much does everything . Im only starting up my workshop for hire . I am focusing on car plant and tractor excaust pipe fabrication . Repairs i will do too . Plus all the other light fabrication that i can get
