I've had pretty good success with some off Amazon. Seem to have stayed sharp regardless of the serious abuse I've given them. Only one of them has suffered and I broke the shank on it. To be fair I was going through 20mm steel multiple times with no coolant and a hand drill at high speed.

another for lidls/aldi, cheap as chip and work great, i buy a few packs every time they are in!

They are a simple geometry to produce and like others, I find even the cheap and cheerful versions seem to last longer than you might expect.

I watched a video on these - I like his tests.
I bought the Dewalt from Amazon - works very well but not had it that long.
I will say for drilling thin steel they are awesome - don't snatch and grab like a twist drill.

yeah i far prefer them for thin stuff than normal twist drills!
I have drilled a 26mm hole through 15mm steel with a step drill....once!
it did it.... once!

Not often I can fault his methods - pretty scientific and a balanced approach.
Only drawback is that many of the products aren't available over here. Obviously though when he is comparing De Walt, Makita, Milwaukee etc we can get them as well. Some of the Chinese products are found over here but under different brands etc.

As an aside, is everyone familiar with the "old drill through a bit of cloth" trick for sheet materials?
It's where you line up the drillbit and, well, just drill straight down through a small patch of folded cloth...
The bit goes through the cloth and as it wads up in the flutes, presses down on the sheet while you press down with the drill. Obviously the downside being you really need to mind your fingers! Never hand hold but then we never do that anyway do we...
