It's probably not powerpoint, specifically, but a piece of embedded media that you no longer have the "codec" for (a codec is a special kind of audio/video driver that encodes or decodes media).
Try dragging and dropping the piece of audio from powerpoint onto your desktop, then double click on it and see whether Windows gives you a hint re which codec is required.

It's most likely that as it mentioned 64 bit codes last night.
But......I checked up with the tutorials and I was doing things right.
It's a wav file. (I know it's 10 times bigger than an mp3 and while I can embed it into a new document for some reason it won't embed into the original slide that was from 2003.......

When you embed it in the word doc, does it play? Same question for when you copy and paste it to the desktop and double click on it...

I meant if I create a new power ppint page it embeds and plays fine.
If I embed it into the original slide it shows the jagged speaker but no bar to play it.
I am slow at sorting things just lately as I am juggling child care / wife care/and sorting computers all of which have their own time line...lol

Huh - well, that's a good thing, then! Suggests that the media clip plays ok, but ppoint in't recognising it as a media file.
