From 2am last Sat to 2am Tues (72 hours) my lad and 2 mates each were awake for about 60hours, building a new PC game from scratch for a competition (for budding game developers) called the "Ludum Dare".
Their new game is called "Pipe Quest" and is a platformer-style 2D game with 10 levels, an online leader-scoreboard, no adverts and it's Free, with No tricks or gimmicks.
This is a genuine, homemade, simple game for beginners as well as experienced gamers.
I like the fact that you can keep retrying till you get past the hazards, to the end of each level.
There are hints on the controls as you go along, so its easy to pick up as you go.
Josh, Sam and our Sean worked their socks off to finish it by the deadline while also making it both fun and a challenge for the player.
You can download the game or play it online; here's the link to their website- http://ld31.hotboxgames.co.uk/
or you could go direct to the Ludum website, via this link -

There are 2,637 games on there to choose from; I'm clearly biased and think you should try PipeQuest first! You can also leave comments/feedback if you sign-in.
There's no selling going on here, it's all safe, and just for fun!
my best is level 1, currently ranked nbr2 at 9.49 seconds
then my arthritic fingers started to hurt with all the key bashing
give it a go?
and post to let us know how you get on?
