Another hobby ruined by legalisation.
That's the issue with things becoming mainstream. People misbehave and laws change.
It’s not unless legislation has changed since I used to fly a model aeroplane, You just join a model aeroplane club and get instruction in how to fly it then you pass a test and get a certificate, there’s no CAA license required. And these are much larger than a drone, I’ve got several in my loft the largest has a 7 ft wingspan and has a 50cc engineGenuine question- when does a model helicopter or airplane become a drone?

I don’t know. I do know the commercial ones are pretty big. The Police had one that had the full setupGood question. I wonder if its the addition of the camera; resultant privacy issues - and being able to control it beyond the pilot's horizon/view..?
Aye. When things become mainstream and easily accessible it's easy for idiots to get involved.Ruined by idiots tbh. People who need to be told that something is illegal before they can understand how bad an idea it is.

There was a thing about that on Radio 4 yesterday.Hi, Drones and model aircraft are classed the same as Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), because they are operated remotely. There are two issues the aircraft must be registered and the operator licenced.
Remember the chaos caused by the drone at Gatwick which closed the airfield back in Dec 2018. Classed as uncontrolled aircraft operating in a controlled airspace, as in not controlled by ATC, so a danger to aircraft.
@carbon regs updated again December 3 2021.
