any one bought one of those half million candle power torches?

As the heading says, any one recomend one as had several over the years but last one died and wasnt as good as previous one, need to light up the other side of a field , say 200 yds , to keep track of what/who s about. rechargable jobbie and cheap as , last two were about a tenner in halfauds.

I had the big cheap rechargeable ones and they where junk.

Got this now. Not cheap but will illuminate a foxes eyes at something ridiculous like a mile. And illuminate objects fully at over 500m.
Pretty sure you would struggle to buy a better torch.
I bought mine 10 years ago now for 60 quid. Near double the price now

Seriously, I have not seen as many deer spotters around the last few years, irritating lot they were. They all used what your looking for.

in your case, your needing it for protection, does it have to be handheld, or can it be mounted on top of the vehicle ? I think the new ones are mag mount, and have a remote
control for swing, pan & tilt.

The power company has them on every vehicle.

You wont see folk these days spotting as thermal is the new toy, lamps are very last year!

Also good for seeing whats or who's about with out them seeing you! You can get one for a mobile phone now for not alot!

beig tite I removed the orig battery and replaced it with a 12v gell motorcycle battery.....
plenty on-line with sizes.......years later after the Q/H bulb blew, replaced that with an LED headlamp bulb....
not quite so pin point but still good.......
on the plus side the batt charge lasted 4 times plus longer.....
still in use, although after 5-6 years the batt is on it's way out again.......

I use mine as the headlight on a narrow boat, works a treat.

The reflectors dull after a while, new ones aren’t cheap. The led hand held torches are the way to go now a days if NV or thermal is out of the equation. Brand new on the left used on the right. Switches and plugs fail too

If you are talking poachers, they may well be illuminating you with their IR lamp(s). There have been instances of people being shot by poachers (either by mistake or on purpose?). Last report of being shot by poachers I read was (I think) on the ‘pigeon watch’ forum.

Better than any light for identifying anything alive out there is a thermal imaging device.

Always hold a torch out at arms length to the side...
I have a Ledlenser X21R, it has a strobe mode - useful in certain situations but for area search, some form of NVG is what you need without giving your position away. Most natural environments are infra-red reflective, which is why military clothing, vehicle paint etc. is impregnated with IRR material otherwise you'd present a 'black hole' at your chosen laying up point.
