One of our club members started a loco whilst serving in the RAF during WWII and only finished it about 10 years ago. Sadly he passed away not long afterwards.

can you make out what the one on the bench is ? does it match any of the drawings/plans

The one on the bench has outside cylinders whilst the drawing is for a larger loco with inside cylinders.

For clarity, I'm talking about the last photo which shows the general arrangement of a loco. I can make out the one which shows individual components. Could just be an interloper.

martin evans , there are two sheets with his name and Metro on them , both show components and no. of 6 sheets in total, so the picture shown isnt the metro ! hmm. hence why I asked ca I get plans /parts still (castings) if I buy this seeing the original suppliers are no longer trading . all help and advice appreciated.thankyou

I'd walk away from it, there are plenty of projects out there, I'd be looking at a completed chassis with motion gear as you dont know how close to the drawings the parts have been made, and working out what is wrong and right can be a minefield. there are loads of abandoned projects out there, most people who are into model engineering tend to walk away from them unless they know the history of them (and the quality of the work they do). and that engine looks to be a O-4-0 looking at the cut outs in the from for the exle boxes, so you have enough wheels......looks like the boiler is missing though.

its a 3 1/2 " gauge Britannia
