I think it will be fine on the chassis, due to the brace across the bottom. I can measure that anyhow.
The peddle box did not concern me too much either, as i thought the box would just pull it right, or right enough.
From all that i read of people having them galvanised, the issue seems to be them shrinking between the feet, and people having to jack them appart to make them fit the outriggers. I have the distance between the centers written somewhere, but, as above, i cant think that the box section brace will have let it shrink there.
But, as you say, would be sensible to check - however, the chassis currently has the old bulkhead still in place, and, whatever happens, its going to be better than that one - even if i had to cut it and weld it again, it would still be better than the current one!
they also twist seen a few scrapped over the years that have been galved
you only braced the bottom others make a X also fastening to the screen mounts as well i hope yours is ok but looks a lot warping in the foot wells best to fit it first line the doors and wings up and see how you go
It took me enough brain power to work out how to brace the bottom...
Initially i was going to use the tubes, but then realised id never have any chance of getting the bolt out again, once the zinc had run in there.
People must have the same issues using the screen mounts - i couldnt work out how to get around it?
i actually just went out to the yard to have another look -
Where the peddle boxes fit is warped, but its one of those ones that looks somewhat worse in the photo than in real life.
The top edge is pretty wavey, but, if i crouch down, and look along the edge, just above the vents, then that is straight enough.
It could still be twisted though, but id still like to think that the main problem area is the bottom half, as all the top is (kind of) box section.
Either way though, i dont have a chassis clear enough to test on, and im not going to delay painting until i do, so, if it all goes wrong later down the line, well, that's the way it will have to be! If i strip the old bulkhead off before i start painting / populating the new one, then it will just delay things that much more, so ill just have to risk it, and hope for the best.
My phone has stopped uploading photos, but i took some snaps on my partners one -
You can see now why i was keen on galvanizing the new bulkhead!
Strangely, the chassis, apart from the bulkhead outriggers, isnt so bad -
Fine, until you get to the mess that is the outriggers -
You cant see too well in the photo, but thats a bit of plate on the top there, stuck on with some sort of mastic, and then done over with underseal.
This is where im at now -
I just need to do the peddle boxes, and that will be the last of the stripping (bar unclipping brake pipes, wires etc)
But -
Im going to do the outriggers first, using the existing bulkhead as a jig. Ill do them one at a time, get them tacked up into place, and then weld them properly when the bulkhead is out of the way.
I have a week off work, so im trying to press on as much as possible.
Ive not got the new bulkhead back from the painters yet, but will do some photos when it returns.
Its not a problem - the truck was cheap. Id been looking out for a knackered 110 csw for some time, and ive not seen cheaper one since either.
I was set to put a new chassis on it, and replace the engine, but both of those are / will be fine.
Ive been lazy at taking photos, but there is still progress happening -
Not far off refitting the loom, just resetting it to stock, removing a few poor repairs etc -
I have no more photos of this choice specimen, but its all cut out and welded up now -
The task that im not so keen on is chopping back the box section thats been welded in in place of the sills. Which i have no issue with, apart from theyve welded it to the a-post feet. So i need to cut it back and fabricate a proper bracket, as would have been there originally - which is not hard, but i need to make sure there's not too much floating about at the same time, and i loose reference.
Purchased some wing tops, and a new bonnet the other day. I have my air fed mask working again, and will be buying some filters to do some painting when the weather improves some.
