Firstly, i set on the stuck glow plug, with my DIY puller (after the failure of the chinease one) -
It did not strip the thread, however, this was the end result -
You can see in the following shot that there's still a fair bit of plug left in the head -
I cant tap any deeper without drilling now though, as the remainder of the 'tube' is filled with the ceramic material.
My plan, at this point in time, is to re-fit the threaded top section, and forget about it for a while.
As mentioned above, i did not do a compression test, but went into the timing check.
Fitted the overly expensive locking tool -
Only to find out the crank bolt was loose enough anyhow - no evidence of loktite at all.
The damper was a pig to remove though - no photos.
When i was running the vehicle up to temp, before starting, a new puddle of black stuff appeared at the front of the engine, that had not been there when it was stationary.
It seems this is coming from the timing case.
Here are a couple of photos -
The keen eye'd among you will notice that the key of the crank is not at the 12-oclock position. Sure enough if i take the pin out of the IP, and rotate about 1 tooth, the key on the crank is at 12, and checking the timing groove on the flywheel shows with certainty that the crank is out, in relation to the pump and cam.
So, that's that resolved. However, i now need to find where this fluid is coming from. And, one day, ill have to deal with the rest of the glow plug...
