Any ideas for this seal please

Has anyone any idea where I can go to get a replacement seal. It's off the trigger of a Metabo rattle gun, it's about 15.5mm across with a ridge around the hole that the other part seals against. I've tried Metabo & they don't supply spares for it. I know it's not an expensive gun, but it's had very little use, probably less than a dozen times & am loathe to chuck it out for the sake of a 10p seal. Needless to say, if that's Metabo's answer to spares, I shan't be buying anything from them again. Pity really as I thought they had a really good name.

I've tried to make a new one out of a tap washer & failed miserably. The original one has literally rotted away on one side, my guess is it was faulty rubber used.

Hi Shox, the dimensions as far as I can tell are 15.5mm dia, 3mm thick with a 7.75mm hole through the middle. Around the hole is a raised rim which forms the seal. I've just been looking on Metabo's web site again & found a parts list for another rattle gun that looks the same as mine, but with a different number, this lists the trigger assembly part number complete. I've just rung the spares dept to see if it's available & the price & they have told me they will ring back

It's not really the cost of it, I could go & buy another one, but this was bought as a birthday present, so I don't want to chuck it out.

ISTR. They only have to supply parts for 6yrs.

Couldn't say exactly how old, but certainly not six years, at a guess a maximum of 4 years. I have a feeling it might have been obsolescent when it was bought, it came from Screwfix & was dropped from the catalogue very soon after. It wasn't an expensive one, but that's not quite the point.

As an aside, my wife's Prestige pressure cooker had the pressure indicator broken off when she went to use it over the weekend, the bit wasn't shown in the spares list, only complete handle assemblies, so I rang them this morning to see if the bit was available separately. I got through to the spares dept to be asked what model number etc, to be told your it was ten years old & there was a product recall on it for safety reasons. The lady then said she would send me a complete new stainless lid, handle, safety valve & the little red plastic bit I was after, free of charge. Now that's what I call service. We certainly haven't had it ten years, so I reckon Argos must have had it in stock for a while.

It wouldn't be too hard to make it if no joy from metabo.

You would only need a lathe, the mold would be reusable so if it didn't last you just make another.

I'm sure if you haven't got a lathe someone would be willing to help out

Lots of different types of silicone/liquid rubber.

There must be one that's suitable for your application.
