Hi,

A guy on a TR7 forum i am a mod on has the following fault,it covers the whole car.

It was painted 3 years ago with two pact, the problem has gradually got worse over the last couple of years, he has tried buffing with G3 and 10 but appears to be in the paint itself.

Would be greatful for any comments you guys have

usualy from a car cover where its got damp underneath , sometimes it goes away when parked in the sun or polished , but if its been like it ages then i doubt its going away

could try some heavy duty polishing with the view that if it burns through then it needed painting anyway

personaly id never go fiercer than 1200 , and prefer finer if possible

I've never seen 2 pack go like that, that looks more like an issue you get with a solid cellulose.

dan it does....ive had it happed to me when ive used plastic masking on a damp car

poly sheet will do that too.chemicals on it.

Yeah iv seen this with polymask or car covers.

If you have tried buffing with g6 or fast cut and still there, try shortwave I/R lamps for 15mins or a heated garage over night should do the trick if its been caused by moisture

Thanks for all the answers, i passed them all on too the gent.

From his side he says he rarely uses a plastic cover, although the car lives outside most of the time.

He polishes and wax's the car a lot, to the level shown in the picture, could these water droplets be magnifying the sun so damaging the paint, poss talking out of my rear end !! but sure i heard this somewhere

Heated garages are a bit of a touchy subject, this is what happened to building his car WAS being sprayed in originaly, lucky his car was round the back but was a few days before he was allowed to find out if it was safe and he could recover it

i have seen the odd paint job mark in the sun after rain , if thats the case it must be some pretty nasty cheap paint and theres not much he can do

plastic covers are bad news , get one thats breathable and make sure the car is bone dry , but even then i think they do more harm than good

I had it happen to the roof of one of the first cars I painted. It was painted with Gypfast. I painted the car in several bit's, the body shell was put out side a few days after painting and covered with a tarp. When it was put back in the raj the roof looked like that, maybe the mottles were a tad smaller. As I remember it, it wouldn't polish out and I repainted the roof a few months later. the shell was stuck outside a few days before xmas, it was really cold. I always assumed it hadn't cured and moisture/damp did it.

I get that on the MGA which is painted in cellulose. It's also a dark colour and if it gets wet after heating in direct sunlight it goes like that and needs a good T-Cut to get the light coloured blotches out.

They come back next time it gets hot and wet no matter what else I do. Mine was painted 20 years ago so is due another respray which ought to fix it. Annoying for the TR when it's only just been resprayed. Don't know what causes it - I'd never had the problem before or since. The MG was stored in a disused fridge after painting so maybe storing in damp conditions when the paint is curing could be it.
