I bought two pulling clamps on eBay, I attached one of them to a short length of chain to a 40yd roll on and attached the other one to a skip Lorry with extending arms in the horizontal position and just pulled it out.

those pulling clamps look handy, must get some, better than vice grips with chain tacked on

They are from FFX at Folkestone, they list them on fleabay

Very strong clamps and the more you pull the more they grip with a conical slide that forces the jaws tighter
