The EU has everything to do with it but please reply to my thread if you have something constructive to say.....trying to find out what the law of the land he is supposed to have broken and why is the problem . I have learnt a lot from this experience not least that young German drivers are taught to hit a car rather than a tree or barrier as 1 it moves and 2 you can trying claiming off them. trees don't have insurance.

Now that's more what I expected them to say so we now just need the other guys statement.....as other have said on other forums it was fait au complis from the outset but at least I can now speak to the Motor insurers Bureau. thanks.

Re the fine/payment,
if your lad and the car are now all squared away, and he doesn't plan on going back to Germany, you could just ignore it.
Over here, the fine ratchets up (think its every 30 days or so, not sure).
If-and its probably a big if- he was stopped in Germany later on, he might get whacked for the full amount (can happen over here-not sure about Germany) if he had not paid.
If the form quotes a website to pay online, it may default to English when you log on with the reference number-its what happens round here-but that would signal that you have received the papers though, and it might not explain what the fine/payment is for. So maybe leave that one.
AFAIK, there are only a couple of countries that agree to chase up fines for traffic offences etc commited in the others country- might be France and Belgium not sure-ie-if flashed by a GATSO.
So, if not paid, it probably will not be chased up, but you would need to check on that, maybe do a google, must be someone out there on a forum who has had a similar form.

Aye, I remember that, but I was thinking more of triggering a camera somewhere before the accident.
Edit: Seems from interim posts that it might be linked to the accident, I wouldn't like to comment on how he should proceed.
Anyway, hope it all works out.

there is no indication on what is happening with the 1000 euros already paid to them
I am keen on finding out why they keep on ignoring emails asking the above questions.

I think your just adding to your own stress with this approach, e-mail is a waste of time for this kind of thing.
First you (your son really) needs proper legal advice - not this or any other social media forum.
Second, after legal advice *if* you need further info, ring them and talk to them. They will almost certainly speak better English than you (or me) and they are genuinely helpful. Its not a personal thing to them its just a process and they will be fair and tell you what the score is. I know this from personal experience of dealing with employees that have had problems in other countries.
I know you haven't said you plan to and I'm not suggesting you would but if your son ends up with a 'history' it makes lots of things in the future more difficult. A fine now might be the cheapest option longer term. Notwithstanding the bond already paid of course.
Good luck with however it works out.

Thats the same here, I send an email every day until they respond.
I'd deffo want a decent translation-I forgot about the 1K euro payment. What may be happening is that they are keeping that as a bond if any costs or fines are not paid-logically, you would think that they would take the fine/costs from the 1k euros, but I am not sure they can do that legally.
Deffo need a sound translation.
Keep sending the emails which will show you are contacting them, I'll see if I can call up the German lads in the meantime.

I am of the same thoughts. I am hoping the bond will be refunded but they really should be making this clear IMHO.
The fine is peanuts it's the principle the other guys word has been taken over 3 witnesses all of whom feared for their life. I spoke to the two passengers who both said how well My son had done to get out of the blokes way who was speeding and out of control.....but as I said before its the outcome I expected it's the lack of communication and clarity and openness that has annoyed me.

So still outstanding over 800 Euros.
Anyway we have received this today . yet more evidence we are not in the EU but a bunch of foreign countries.
