Any gas fitters in the house?

BIL has just rang to say what do I think,
Since he had his new combi boiler fitted, if someone has a shower the gas fire in the living room go's out!
What do you rekon?

I had to beef mine up to 28mm from meter up to boiler in the loft

I aint a gas fitter as you know but I was advised by one

Can,t get my head round why it worked before though, the boiler is like for like in same place.

was the system pressure tested after the boiler was installed

Did the fitter turn the gas meter tap on fully again ?, Faulty regulater on the meter

Can you change the power rating of the new boiler ?
Maybe the previous one was running at a reduced burn setting.

Maybe when the new one was fitted they enlarged some of the feed pipe diameter so the burner is running better causing the pressure drop on the fire supply?

Low pressure to the house? Neighbour had a similar thing it was the crusty old screwed steel pipe in the drive, Was never a problem till the went to a cobmi.

Sounds odd I told him to ring installer and turn fire off.

I've also seen people lose supply gradually die to water in the gas main in the street

just changed a floor standing boiler for a wall hung condensing boiler and we had the same problem , not enough gas supply, changed the supply from 22mm to 28mm and bingo boilers happy.

New boilers work on volume, not pressure

They hold the gas at at atmospheric pressure with a zero governor, when the demand is high, like on hot water, it will pull all the gas out of the pipe with the fan and affect other appliances if the pipe is too small

Needs fixing ASAP, it’s a potentially dangerous situation

I'd imagine all this should have been checked before signing the boiler off.
We just had a new boiler fitted and the pressure into the house before the meter was slightly too low, the gas people came out and switched our gas off overnight then came back the next day to dig a few holes in the drive and fit a new pipe.Turns out the old pipe had another pipe pushed up through the middle of it so the bore was too small, something they used to do in the past.
