Any Freelander 2 owners who do their own servicing?

Just completed the service on my Freelander2, oil changed, air filter changed & oil filter changed.
Does anybody know of an easier way to change the oil filter.
Currently I undo the filter casing lid with a 27 mm ratchet ring spanner which I purchased specially for the job. That done the only way I've found of removing the filter & lid is downward (too many wires & pipes in the way to go up) temporarily forcing the piece of plastic air trunking aside to allow removal from the car. Getting the new filter back in is a reversal of the above.
It's a pig of a job with no space to play with. Is there a better way?

nope, thats about it,

one problem of using an engine designed for another car, a remote filter would make life easier.

I've never really looked into FL2 history, what was the engine originally designed for?

Manufacturers don't make engines for their cars specifically, they make engines to sell to other car makers. It's up to them to make them fit.

Thanks for confirming what I already suspected, looks like more skinned knuckles for the foreseeable future. I was told the engine might be of Puegot design but it has a wopping great Fomoco stamp on the sump, so who knows.

If you take the turbo pipe off it gives more room .
There are much worse oil filters than this .
The Ford Cogar is unbelievable

Engine is a Ford/PSG (Peugeot etc) collaboration, it's not the same as the 2.2 in the mondeo sttdci etc with the injector issues. Haven't needed to do a service on mine yet as I've not had it long enough but I like it otherwise!

Meh, I'm a mechanic and have worked on everything from bikes to 20ton diggers, getting filters out of stupid places is not an uncommon occurrence, unfortunately the blokes who design most vehicles never have to work on them so they don't make things easy...
