any ford folk in ? mk1 focus oil filter?

need to do an oil change on a 54 plate 1600 focus mk1 thats not here to inspect

online parts sellers seem to have both a long and stumpy looking filter both suggesting they are for this car

any ideas whats correct ?

I have seen them with both. Mainly they have the longer ones and newer ones have the shorter ones, don't hold me to it though

No specific experience with that car (not a ford person) but aftermarket filters often vary in size, and occasionally won't fit certain engine/model combos even tho they physically screw to the lump

Not Ford, but replaced filters on a car that came through for a bit of welding.

Original filter was huge, almost as big as the 1.3 engine in the car itself. New filter was a third of the size.

Main thing to check is the sealing face is the same.

I have a focus 2001 MY 2litre zetec in my kit car. It came with a long filter but it had to be changed for a short one to miss the steering shaft. They still work ok but will need replacing more frequently. In a focus chassis I would have thought there will be enough space for a long one as that is what came from factory on my new crate engine.

Make sure that if the filter in your application is supposed to have a check/non return valve that any after market one has. Cheap and nasty ones often don't!
For what it costs, play safe with a "genuine" Ford branded one from a Ford agent. Better than a lot of rattle on start up!
