Hi guys,

I have taken my welder apart and done a bit more investigation. After a bit of looking it would seem the relay is a bit black and could well be the issue.

I've removed the relay from the PCB, but can't seem to find a suitable replacement.

The relay that I've removed is a Finder 02 type 40.61 16a 12v. It says 0300 on it.

I can't seem to find another of these anywhere. Finder 40.61 12v 16a relays seem to be available but look to have too many terminals. I need one with only 6 and these seem to have more from what I can see.

If anyone out there knows about relays, what are the key numbers I need to look for to buy another by a different brand maybe?

Post a photo up that might help identifying it. Any relay with correct voltage coil and correct switching will do the job with wires used to connect to pcb

Thanks for that.... Seems to have too many pins tho. Is it just that I can just remove the surplus pin/s?

Just a standard PCB relay that. Take it to your local maplin and they will sort you one out

Cheers gents. Tried maplin yesterday and they said they didn't have one.

There were 6 pins soldered, but others seem to have more?

Oh sorry, just seen the bit about 0300 being 'pin out'.

You might find if you look at the base that they have cut off the two extra pins.

Link shows the relay you have given details for but as you say two extra pins. It's not unusual for manufactures of pcb assemblies to remove pins that are not required or will drill pcb but not have any solder pads for unused pins. At other times they may ground or tie hi any spare pins to stop them floating and causing faulse triggering/noise.
Note it is possible to remove the dust (blue) cover from your relay. It is held on by the two small lugs just to the right of the triangle in your pic. Slip thin blade/strip down either side and the cover should slide off. You will find that the contacts are blackened with carbon causing a poor/intermittent contact. You could clean it up but as the faces are a hardened special coating the relay will fail again in the not to distance future.

Have spoke to JPR Elec they have the one shown above but dont know about the 0300 'pin out' and the phone lady said the one shown in the link is all they have.

any other ideas?

Eh up gents,

Just thought id give you an update as to the welder relay situation... Spoke to a place called Rapid Elec.. They confirmed what some of you had already said - that i could just buy the 8 pin dual pole relay and remove the non reqd pins..

Ordered the relay on Friday morning.. It arrived Sat morning, was installed Sunday afternoon and hey presto.. worked a treat.

In fact welder never welded so well before.

So... Happy days. other than i continued making my trailer and have now run out of wire.

hi you are all correct as I had the same problem with sip 160t mig mate
only 6 pins show on the original relay as in the image
I fitted the described 8 pin relay, made the 2 spare pins redundant and hey presto
welder works a treat
