my son has had a smart meter fitted and now his storage heaters don’t work
He’s had an “electrician” round from the landlord who says it’s not connected so he’s phoned supply company who say he needs an electrician

Currently he’s going round in circles with a house with no heating and a baby

the only way round it is take the nigh storage heaters out and fit panel heaters . then put service connector blocks on the supply tails and connect the off peak db in to them to power them 24 hours . landlord shouldn't have had meter changed without any thought to the heating only option is to buy some freestanding heaters and plug them in till the job is sorted nothings going to get done in a couple of days at least unless you get the old meter put back in

the meter needs 2 separate lives out, one for each rate. they share the same Neutral, so there should be 5 tails from the Meter to the CU(s).
Can he get a multimeter on the input to one of the heaters? obviously there will be no electric there until the Cheap rate

I suspect they have installed the wrong meter. there should be two tarrifs shown on the display

i suspect other way around payer wanted smart meter fitted

not a landlords problem then its down to person who wanted it fitted

To make it cheaper I believe
When he moved in it had a card meter and he asked them to take it out as it was costing a fortune so they have fitted the smart meter

that meter has the 2 output supplies why wont it work on off peak has it been set up properly

The second live looks to be fitted, the meter probably needs configuring to operate the internal relay, if that's an option on any new tariff.

he will im more sorry for that baby

anyway his landlord is not at fault its your sons fault why didnt he get fitted a standered meter

the supply company is the main fault here its get onto them and get them to sort it or remove it

you may have to go viral to get things done though that means newspapers


they have to make a new contract with the supplyer for the mains 7 side of 2 different tarrifs at play

The switch is on but the circuit doesn’t appear to be live and when the test button is pressed nothing happens

the rcd or the test wont work unless its powered up in other words no supply from meter
