VW 1.6 TD diesel (80ps)

I did some modifications to the pump

I gave her 10 mm TDI (1z 90ps) plunger
I left oem SB injectors (dnosd 297)
I left oem cam plate
I did a timing mod and a gov mod - but not very agressive one and for the time being it does not matter because for now it is only about idling....

So... this is how the engine works

I get a high-pitch rattle sound...... I tried to swap the injectors.. borrowed from my friends.... I changed delivery valves on the pump to TDI ones... it helped but only a bit....

no.... the engine can be loud, but the rattling sound is unacceptable..

If it didn't do it before you made any alterations, then simple logic dictates it's something you have changed, else directly related to it, which is the likely cause. Go back to standard and apply one change at a time, checking after each change.

Do you have the needle lift sensor on an injector? If so what figures are you getting for injection timing. Hopefully you have vagcom.

definitely my friend... but does it mean that if I go back to the previous specs and it will work ok, then I should stay with the old 9mm pump... no.....

that's why I am asking what else can be done, because going back to the stock parts is not an option, moreover it is not changing a wheel, do you know what it takes to take the pump apart? I need 10mm plunger for my new bigger turbo and this will remain.....

and even if somebody doesn't know, then perhaps they could explain me what makes my injectors behave in such a way after the changes because it sounds as if the injectors got stuck, which is not the case....

the only change that could play a role here is the plunger, timing advance mod and gov mod don't matter right now because these start to make a difference when the engine reaches higher rpms, and as for now the problem may be limited to idling only...


There is a difference in output pressure of the pump right now, but this is how it was meant to be and...an expert on pump calibration told me the the pressure has (rather) nothing to do with it..


This is not a TDI engine, this is a mechanical pump... vagcom is useless here... ingection timing was tampered with already, it did not get rid of the rattle anyway
