No i think a lot of people think they are manufacturers......and they do nothing to dispel the myth......I heard it once described as "virtual" manufacturing...That explains a lot of things ,,, many thanks , I didnt know that , and Ill bet Im not the only one either.

At what point did SIF stop producing the Sifbronze wires in the UK?No i think a lot of people think they are manufacturers......and they do nothing to dispel the myth......I heard it once described as "virtual" manufacturing...

Thats the issue.....it can be good stuff but they can change supplier and you wont know....and usually its because of the price.....as far as I know they dont have any Technical Staff (well if they do they get their data sheets wrong) to oversee what their buyer is doing.Nothing wrong with SIF stuff in my experience. We've had weld procedures qualified with their stainless wire, including destructive tests etc.
Their TIG brazing wire runs nicely, as does their aluminium wires.
Not sure how variable the quality of material is, but I haven't seen any "bad" stuff.
It's not "good" but it's generally OK. I haven't bought any in a year or two, cos these days I try to specify Bohler, Lincoln or Esab for everything.
I cant remember exactly.....maybe 90s.........definitely before 2007At what point did SIF stop producing the Sifbronze wires in the UK?
TBH I always thought they were import wires, based on the prices over the last 5-10 years... I hadn't attached any significance to the SIF name at all, until now! I hadn't made the connection to Suffolk lawn mowers at all![]()
Esab, Lincoln, Bohler ER70-S3 or A15 or W2SiSo I still need some rods. I don't mind purchasing 5kg. What should i get?
Go to your local welding equipment distributor or Gas and Gear shop and you will get decent quality, buy by price off eBay and you’ve very little comebackSo I still need some rods. I don't mind purchasing 5kg. What should i get?
different altogetherI've got MS filler rod that came with the OA package i bought a good few years ago,as i use Oxy propane for brazing, there no use to me,copper coated, will they be anygood for Tig?
Thanks for sharing, I suppose it’s the delivery charge that makes it so expensiveFYI I found the best deal on eBay - 5kg of esab a15 for £45 delivered
