Any coach drivers here ?

Mate has to move a coach on a private place only 200m aprox we have a gent here that used to drive a coach but 40 years ago so don't know new stuff

We can put it out of n in to n1 or n2 etc or rotate the switch to r and do gears that way
Take the break off (first pick under dash lift lever)
But apply throttle nothing happens


It was driving befire being delivered so it must be some thing stupid


Ony one want to post instructions?

It may have an air operated throttle, so you need to let it build the air up.

as long as its private ground a normal license can drive it

if you own it nothing can be said about it either

7.5 ton wagons with long wheel base still need time to charge up the air brakes before you move off so it will be roughly the same

Curious to know if the coach has a preselector gearbox. They used to be common on Leyland buses when I was younger. The gear was selected using the gear select knob, followed by a dab on the "clutch" pedal, up to several seconds later, which would shift the gear to the one selected. The actual declutching, gear change, and clutch re-engagement was automated, maybe to reduce the trashing of expensive gearboxes through driver error.

Here's a bit from Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preselector_gearbox): Typical operation of London buses was they had a very low first gear, only used on hills, so the driver when starting would select second gear, depress and release the change gear pedal to engage the transmission, and then select third ready for changing gear on the move, all this done while the bus was still stationary. On starting, just the accelerator pedal was pressed, with the eventual shift into third gear made by simply pressing the gear change pedal.

What make and model of coach is this?

but if you look at lever in 2nd pic the knob has d n r secloctor switch and the lever just knocks it up a gear


just never moves could try tapping the excelorator then try to drive

Silly question but is the Left hand indicator stalk part of the gear selection process?

I used to use some aircraft moving equipment that had normal gears but the L/H stalk that looked just like yours was used to select fwd/reverse/ neutral / hi / low range?

Might have an interlock on the door - close it before trying to move

I bought my first car with a push button start - key simply sat in the dash. Owner started it, I drove away for the long trip north - noticed next to no fuel, found a petrol station . . . realised I had no idea how to turn it off . . .

Try building the air up, shut the door(interlocks might not be working) Select drive and press the "clutch" pedal to the floor and then let the pedal back up and it should go into drive.

just run the engine for 5 or 10 mins ?

As Mick Annick said inter lock with the front doors, I drove london a bus for 43 years but never a coach
make sure air has built up check the dash for a Halt brake switch but that should be on a sprung switch
also lift the front step kneeling function if it has that

on the trucks i have driven, there is a buzzer that stops buzzing when pressure is up to spec

In the first picture the top two gauges on the left of the steering column look like the air gauges, they should be marked in Bar zero to twelve bar, they have to read above eight bar. It might have a halt brake, that's a spring loaded plunger somewhere near the hand brake lever that can only be pushed if the air pressure is up.

If it still won't go, try sending the pics to the bus museum they have a lot of experienced drivers of all ages/types of vehicles so someone is bound to know how to get it moving.

Setras are usually Mercedes based drive line, the only experience I've had with Mercedes are Unimogs. Their gear levers are kind of sequential one push of the lever to go up or down the gears with the use of the clutch pedal, they also had a toggle underneath the top of the lever to do the same but without using the clutch pedal. An acquired technique to drive. Door interlocks are usually tied into gear selections or not. Near full air will be needed for handbrake release (spring brakes) and gears or other auxiliary equipment.
