I extended my large single garage to put my small machine shop on it. It took me over 30 sq. M so I needed building regs approval. It was no hassle and they weren't interested in the existing building at all.
I had to bridge a sewer with a lintel, again no worries.
I did all the work up to dpc myself and then employed a brickie for the walls. Did the roof myself.

That's interesting. Do you remember the costs involved with getting them out, signed off etc?

I spoke to then today and it seems if I build the compressor shed attached, it's still classed as one building even if seperate doors and no access between them inside. It has to not touch at all.

It's no big deal 3m2 more blockwork, but means i loose space inside and it's tight for what I want to put in it anyway.

It was a few years back so costs may well (will) be higher but I seem to recall it was about the £300 mark all in.

Looks like you have a log burner in there as well going by the chimney, will that complicate things?

Only if I ended up needing the workshop to comply with building regs, but considering I fit woodburners for a living, it's not an issue.
