Just an update.
Now have loads of horseshoes, thanks Luke.
Went to Frome with wife, daughter and her partner. Loaded up the car with a little over 200kg of them fairly quickly. When I got home, unloaded them alone definitely not quickly.
Next couple of days will be sorting them depending on their size and some prep ready to start sticking them together.

Progress so far.
It’s like a big jigsaw with no picture. I know there are other ways to make this, where it is in rows with all the shoes facing the same way, but I liked this arrangement.
I may finish this one tomorrow and take stock of what will change for the next one. I am apparently making 3 now since my SIL has asked.

Probably not. I have started to think of myself as a 5yr old in an older body. A much, much, much, much (lots of much) older body.Am i the only one with a childish view of this?

I reckon about 45, but you need a selection of about 60 so you can choose a size that fits the spaces when you get towards the end.
The base is 6 large and 3 others of any size as long as they are about the same height.
When I googled “How many for a globe of about 70cm”, AI reckoned 100 to 150. Never trust the internet. Hence when I asked you if I could come and get some, I asked for loads.
With the 200+kg I got, I reckon I could do 6 or 7 of these with bases. If I get the chance, I’ll weigh it and let you know the weight.

Just to wrap this idea up.
Finished all three, first with MMA and then two with MIG.
They are about 24in diameter and weigh about 18kg each without the base.
I’m fairly new to MMA and found it difficult. This is the first time I’ve made something that is not on my bench, hence some welds were vertical up or down. I couldn’t always get in close to get a good view of the weld pool. On occasion I would finish a weld only to find I had missed the joint completely.
At least with MIG I could redo a joint without having to clean any slag from the area.
The third one I did, I had about 25kg of shoes prepared so all I had to do was put them together. Took about 3hrs at a fairly leisurely pace.
