I have this in my sights but wondering what a big anvil is worth? The sketch is just for size reference and i have no idea of the weight but if i had to guess i would say 200 to 250 kg
Yes that is the anvil it is very local to me but i think loading might be an issue lolWell that's a whopper.
Agree with the estimate and if that's the actual anvil, looks in pretty good nick. Slightly swayed, no major delam. Easily £500, I would expect it could make £650 on eBay. Probably more like 5" than 6" though. A six inch face would be truly gigantic.
I’d love to say that but it’s finding one….They are worth what someone will pay for them, a bit like old vices. I have never paid more than about £50 for an anvil, any more than that they stay where they are.

Anvil prices are stupid at the moment
Not really. You’ll always get the garden ornament brigade. I know where there’s a Peter Wright. Really flat and square but the guy won’t sell it. The house is an old smithy but he isn’t a smith. It’s not even the original anvil. Came up from London apparently.Any idea what's causing this phenomenon? People with more money than sense 'upcycling' them as garden ornaments etc?
It's hard to believe there's been a sudden upsurge in proper 'smithing.
and you get burned

I also think lockdown and COVID helped. All the hipsters wanting to feel manly and emulate their YouTube heroes!
A lot of this stuff will be for sale eventually when the next fad comes in. When they find out shaping metal by hand is hard work and you get burned
Once found one in a scrapyard and inquired about price. I was told if I could move it I could have it for free. Needless to say despite all our efforts a friend and myself couldn't move it one inch !
