Anvil Stand

Decided to make a stand for my anvil as I was annoyed at it being on the shed floor all the time, the stand is made from an old folding trampoline that I modified.
Old trampoline frame galv 35x35 box

No build pics but here is the finished item









Its not a big Anvil(485x225)just the perfect size for lifting in and out of the shed when needed

Nice work, wish I had one of those, I think if it were mine I would put a thin pad of cork or rubber between the stand and anvil to stop the metal to metal contact,and anvil would still work fine.

How high is the anvil face from the ground? I have a 1cwt anvil looks a lot like that and am undecided on how high to make a stand. Tradition says they should be the height of your knuckles with your hands held down by your side.

that sounds about rite try using a 14lb hammer any higher and hold the work at the same time a 12inch high round tree trunks ideal with anville stapled to it as it absorbs the shock when hit

Mine's set at knuckle height as well, I have a piece of thick rubber stable flooring under the anvil.

bet it took some lifting to get it up on top, show us something you made using the anvil would be interesting.

I have a 2.5lb hammer and it's plenty heavy for me. We used to use a 14lb hammer to break core irons in castings at a foundry I worked in and you didn't swing that you just lifted it and let it drop.

quite easy m8 try pulling 300amp armoured cables and hard graft all day soon get used to it

When I served my time 28lbs hammers were quite common in the steel works,the next thing up from that in the rolling mill was the Tup. must have weighed about 1/4 of a ton, Hung it on the crane with a chain at it's balance point, blacksmith made with a swaged down tail end complete with a ring for attaching a rope to get it swinging at whatever was trying to be stubborn

I think hammers 20 lbs & above are called 'Mauls' & are not to be confused with the a 4 way wedge for splitting wood also called a 'maul' or 'bomb' The wonders of english!!!

When you've been swinging that bad boy all day you know about it

28 lbs you must be like a gorilla, their knuckles touch the ground

I thought a maul was the the big flat round ended sledgehammers for fencing, but then there's also splitting mauls.

Anvil height is 850mm of the ground, just above knuckle height don't think I'll be swinging any large sledges at it, just my 4lb tbh.
The anvil is stamped with Peter Wright Patent 0 2 14, I take it that's the manufacturer? not sure of the numbers though.
