Anti scratch, diamond hard etc Clearcoat

Are clears like the Spies Hecker, ceramic particle, diamond hard, blah blah etc, really any
better than clear of old?
I say clear of old, my cans of clear could well be from 92. I was just about to buy some
hardener and saw all the anti scratch which I figure means it's harder and wondered if I
should buy some fresh stuff;-)

I've been trying this out for the last couple of months, if you plan on doing much flatting and polishing you might have to re-think the process.This stuff is real hard, you can't just hit it with 1500 and a quick mop and be done. Probably suites production booth work where there is only a couple off bits to nib out, it can easily be scratched with a cotton rag though which is surprising.

I'm saying cotton itself is coarse enough scratch 2k clear, which is well known but the ceramic clear is not harder to the degree where it won't. Some people recommend the CD test, if a cloth will mark a CD it will mark paintwork.

Personally I don't think you can beat any of the following clears

Lechlar acrifan 2000
Max Meyer Maxiclear
ICI Nexa 100-595MS

If a clear says 2:1 with up to 10% thinners

and you were using the fast activator, and painting in a garage here in the UK in coolish temperatures (now).

Would you use any thinners? and if so would you put in the whole 10%, or what?

Yes you need the thinner for it to flow out

The thinners are there to help the solvents release quicker from the clear coat mix and to aid flow out .

No thinners are going to be rock solid .

most ceramic clear etc need to be baked too using heat or s/wave infra reds if air dried there properties will never work the same
