Does anyone know what sort of metal anti roll bars are made of for cars....

Hi..thanks for your reply. .I have cds and t45 for roll cages..I didn't explain my self clearly so apologies for that..I meant roll bar as in anti roll bar that connects the front wishbones to the front drop links on a car

It will be some sort of spring steel I would have thought. low carbon with a bit of Cr, Mn and Si

I've made several and used 4130 chrome-moly as it has memory in its structure,
What size you use depends on stuff like bar and blade length, also how stiff you need it,
on the rear of a couple of drag cars i've used 1" o/d x 0.065" wall thickness 4130.

Not sure myself, again i think spring steel too, an aquaintance of mine had one made by z cars in hull.

In that case I believe the choice most make is to use EN24, but it's all dependant on the application. Heat treatment is also required as far as Im aware. Plus the majority of people I know who have done it also had some type of adjustment to make the ride softer/stiffer. Just food for thought, have you looked for anything you may be able to repurpose from a normal road car?

Evening all.thanks for all the information. .I have looked at using another rollbar off the same vehicle just a different year..still got to do a little research. But if I can't find what I am looking for then it's a custom job..

you could say that but its had some near misses on the road in the past even with the big arb fitted. Four link suspension front and rear theres a lot of movement LOL

Quenched and tempered 4140 (EN19) is a fairly common choice for some commercially made anti roll bars along with 4340 / EN24
