I try to get on with everyone, but zee germans can be trying. We had one in the gunclub, who was nice enough. But one day we were looking at a technical issue with a clay layout and we were all making suggestions as to what to do, including the german fella, but he lost his rag and stood there stamping his foot saying "YOU VIL DO AS I SAY, YOU VIL DO AS I SAY, I AM CORRECT, YOU ARE WRONG". Needless to say he was told what stop to get off at in no uncertain terms.

Fabricate everything in mm, Work with pipework in inches unless I’ve been given a iso with mm on it, I work for a Dutch company and not one of them can understand imperial, they struggle a bit when we have American made equipment to work on!

We buy tape measures at work that are metric only - they are handy becuase the graduations extend full width of the tape so can be used from left or right.
Problem is now no one has any idea of imperial. When someone walks in and asks for something 5 foot long there's lots of blank looks.

That's more likely to be cos they don't teach Imperial in Poland.

I tend to visualise bigger imperial measurements as real wold objects, 8 & 4 foot as a sheet of ply. 6 foot a fence panel. 20 & 40 foot as shipping containers.

I'm old school and don't really like metric as there's only a factor of ten. Whereas my steel rule has 1/8ths 16ths 12ths and if I can't find an exact measurement in inches, then a couple of mm will get added. I build things that are in metric and Imperial in the same structure. My lathe is Imperial but I can use it to do metric. I don't see the problem. Bushels, pecks, acres, chains, furlongs, fathoms,Cables, Pounds, shillings, pence, grains, gills, quarts, gallons, scruple, drachm, troy, avoirdupois, apothecaries, stones, cwt, tons, slugs, perch, pole, logarithms, sines, co sines, groats, I can go on. It made mental arithmatic a necessity. Doing long division of £sd was exciting!. Now you reach for your iphone for an answer. I've misspelled a word, can you find it?

Cosine is one word.

I took my slide rule into work some years ago, nobody in the workshop had any idea what it was or how to use it. When I was an estimator it took 20 minutes to work out a price on one, down to a couple of minutes when I got the first calculator in the company, early seventies I think. Greeves246

When I was at college in the 70's, we weren't allowed to use those new fangled and hugely expensive electronic calculators in exams. which was fine by me because pretty well all of the stuff I could never remember like the Quadratic equation formula, calculus operator stuff etc. had previously been scratched into my slide rule right behind the slide.

No fun it "metrics" or Germans Always puts a smile on my face when sub divisions of our imperial measurements are mentioned amongst old boys, for thickness we have the rizla, fag packet, fingernail , hacksaw blade and midgies gonads , for liquid we have a drip, splash,dash , dribble and a few more .

Morris Motors used metric fasteners on engines and BSF nuts and bolts for chassis, bodywork and axles. They had bought the Hotchkiss engine factory in the UK, being a french company, Hotchkiss had used metric taps and dies. Morris never bothered changing until they went to UNF/UNC for everything in 1956

Nah, stick to metric on that one, If you say you are 90Kg I have no idea if you are a fat barsteward or a scraggy person BUT if you say you are 15 stone then I know your a F.B.

In the States it is sort of funny, but where I used to work we had "C" spanners and "Pin" spanners, and a few others.
But an open end wrench was never called a spanner.

I have a Chevy S-10, 4.3 torque monster. Some of the body bolts are Imperial, some Metric, engine and other bits are the same, take Your chance, just bring all the wrenches You have, one of them might work

I'm fine with both and car tyre measurements use both plus percentage, ie 185mm 65% X 15 inch
