So you want to move on to the mechanical problems? ...So thats almost a third of the replies repeating that Transits rust. This is my 5th one, so its safe to assume I know now. Can we move on? I can remember when this place was useful...
Just make sure that you check the van thoroughly for rust.So thats almost a third of the replies repeating that Transits rust. This is my 5th one, so its safe to assume I know now. Can we move on? I can remember when this place was useful...
It must have Transit panels on itTo be fair to the transit, I've spent a lot of time welding them, but the worst van I've seen for rust (and still being driven) is one local to me, Is a Sprinter, absolutely horrendous.
Could be Transit panels, but to be fair, the most rust I see on vans on this side of the small pond are indeed Vito's and Sprinters, whereas Transits from the same era are almost always in much better nick.
Even more baffling to me is that the same era VW LT (essentialy a Sprinter with a VW badge stuck on, made in the same factory?) doesn't seem to rust in the same extent.
My friend Ian, @Redsailor, who resides in your neck of the woods has a VW Crafter with seemingly intractable injector / fuelling problems that his garage can't solve.I don't get his either - it the reason I have gone over to Crafters - somehow they are so much better than the Sprinters I used to have. Don't ask me why - some of the parts are numbered up with Merc part numbers.

Nor can he. And he's a clever chap - he built his own MIG welder 50 years ago.
Got the bits i did from the evilbay, tbh, was the best price out thereTurns out someone 'repaired' this one with a load of tiger seal, expanding foam and really thick paint, so it now looks quite a lot like your pictures. Looks a lot like a full set of arches sill and steps are needed. I've patched them before and might go that way, depending on the price of the bits....
