so lets re invent the wheel I suppose
I am in market for a kinda do it all welder to compliment my old oxford oil cooled arc welder (still need to learn how use it)
I am moving from motorcycles onto larger projects like cars and custom work such a bigger bbq smokers and few other jobs. So plan is start getting gear ready for my garage
Plan is 1st decent welder - ideal a mig that can do some tig, why? heard mig is lot simpler for amature fabricator and tig bit more complicated and expensive
So seen what looked be ideal welder,
- migatronic rallymig 161i. does everything I want but very little in the way of reviews and heard parts are dear
- Esab Rebel, oh ya the holy grail of welders, does everything I want, great reviews but double my budget.
- Portamig seem have great following but id like one that can do some tig so I can practice tig and if needs be its nice have options
- kemppi seem good but dedicated mig only and not much cheaper than esab rebel
SWP and SIP seem excellent value here in IReland, great bundle deals for cheap but most seem be 30/40amp min rating and head few saying that's bit high
So what will I be doing - THE DREAM
Refurbish a jeep wrangler, so need possible make up a new chassis in places, body work and dd bit alu tacking
Current use -
working on motorcycles, needed repair a broken radiator tab, lad in work mig repaired aluminium, its not pretty but works. had few stainless steel exhausts needed welding in past, again I got them done in work
but with change in jobs its not as easy get stuff done and I like to be able do some work on the bikes in shed, not take them off, hope have them jigged up right and get another lad make it up
Plus I LOVE TOOLS and more stuff I can justify in my garage the happier I am
