Have just picked up a stripped caravan, 7 x 14 bed (7 x 15 if you count the front box), galvanised chassis, good hitch and jockey wheel, single axle, fitted mudguards, ply base but no sides, decent tyres, ok hubs and brakes, the wiring harness is intact all the way to the connector block at the back ( but no lights fitted)
A quick visit to Tescos - who have trailer lights on offer for £2.50 each
Have been looking at the other trailer threads, but still have a few questions...
It seems very nose-heavy, is it difficult to move the axle forward? easier to shorten the front and move the hitch back? ( I'm hoping with it being galv, most fittings bolt on so can be repositioned)
Towing is fine, but it's wider than the car. It looks like a solid beam axle, it it ok to remove about a foot from the center and narrow the bed so it's the same width as the car? How??
Will it be easier to sell if I don't narrow it? The trailer will be used for about a month to move a large tree (in pieces) and a winters supply of timber, then it will be bigger than I need.
I can cut it down to a sensible size, or sell it on and by something closer to the size I need. Any suggestions?
Pics and more info once I've seen it in daylight.
We have loads of dexion angle-shelving, so will be using that for sides and any framework. Trying to avoid welding onto galv if I can. Also have a ready supply of pallets, so timber should not be problem.
Any welding will be with a Clarke Pro-90 ( can get heavy welding done locally if it's needed)
Any other advice gratefully received before I get stuck in
