Another trailer question!

Hi,

I think I have read pretty much all the trailer threads on this forum, but I haven't found what I am looking for!

I am thinking of building a twin-axle trailer from scratch, but one of my biggest problems is what hubs to use on my trailer's trailing arms. I had looked at using rear car hubs, as some of them are bolt-on to a rear subframe, therefore easy to attach to a trailer's trailing arm suspension and I could use the handbrake mechanism for the brakes. However, as the trailer will be built in 2025, i can't pass for a pre-2012 build , so I will need overrun brakes which I cannot do with car hubs.

The other idea is to use the hubs off a plant trailer or caravan, but i'm unsure how easy it will be to separate the hub from the torsion bar suspension (which I don't want).

Does anyone have any ideas for suitable hubs?

The trailer will have a 5-metre bed, 2 metres wide.

Choice of wheels, hubs and brakes will be down to the intended weight carrying capacity, also useful to know whether this is wheels under or to the side of the trailer bed. Proper brake cable operated brake units are not expensive.

In my experience I have found it easier and cheaper to just buy one or I did once fit a new body to an old trailer

If u have to build one find a good old caravan with twin axles….Often just a few quid or free….

Depending on the weight you plan to carry, I doubt double axle caravan ones would be up to the job. Caravans are not very heavy.

I'm looking to transport two Piaggio Ape's on it, each weighing about 215kg and 2.5m in length, but with a view that I could if needed transport a small car.

Something like this would be ideal
