How do you do your silver detailing?

@Kent, any advice on lining up railing points / railheads? Like these. I’ve had an absolute mare tonight.

30x10 flat bar. Thought I’d be clever and punch the 12mm holes for the round bar myself as brundles didn’t have stock.
Came out crooked as hell. Took me a good half hour on the anvil to straighten.

Then a tonne of clamps to get it proper flat before welding. Then getting the poxy railheads lined up.

I’m trying to match some gates the customer has bought. The railheads are not sunk into the 30x10 they sit on top.

I remember why I don’t do railings now.
Working for about £10 an hour at the minute.

Favourite is sanwhiching the top bar / weld area.
For alignment i know no better than a simple angle iron jig (one tack, look and two more tacks ) .
The things are too misshapen to get a great jig but sandwhiching the top rail / pair of rails is favourite

The last ones I did I just eyeballed the first and last railheads, and clamped a length of timber between them. The other railheads just lean up against the wood as I tacked them in.

Then as Kent says look, tweak, and tack some more.

In the UK environment (a bit damp, I believe) usually do you hot dip galvanize the external railings?
