Strangely I did lust after BMWs on my teens. I think it was the liveried police bikes got my attention. An R100RT in that burgundy fading to black colour with matching panniers is still a desire.View attachment 393396

And a CX500 in the rear, excellent little bikes. I begrudgingly bought one for emergency transport in the late 80's, and that little thing was brilliant, took me to the south of France 3 times, 80mph thrash all the way there and back with never a drop of maintenance. It already had 40,000+ miles on it when it fell into my hands.
I bought it off one of my dads mates in the RAF, and it had plugs and fasteners drilled and lock wired in several places.....

I think there’s more to bond with on older bikes and also boxer BMWs. Partly the fact that for me tinkering time is 50% extra fun

Iv never been a bmw bike fan nor car unless it’s a real M car not M sport

I like going stupidly fast and braking way to hard plus corners. If I’m not doing this it’s off road on an enduro. Older bikes have their charm but Iv never been a tourer fan

I think there are plenty, myself included who would pick an old boxer bmw in preference to the latest modern missile.

It's weird but one of the only modern bikes I do actually like it the R9T BMW! Who'd a thunk it?

I am the same up to a point, those underslung silencers and plastic fairings do not do it for me.

Am guessing its what we lusted after in our youth that sets what you like. In my case mainly old British bikes, though the Laverda Jota, Guzz Lemans, Ducati 900ss, BMW R90S and Z900's.

Ive owned a z900, and a Ducati 900ss. The Ducati was a nice bike but unreliable with electrical issues, and the z900 was a thing of wonder in a straight line, though now quite iconic Id not pay the prices asked. Never owned a BMW bike, just not my thing. Im quite happy with my XJR1300, had a bimble round the block this afternoon on it!

Think what puts me off buying another is the amount of additional cash required, coz Im just tight!

I always prefered the RS, had a red one through the mid 80's and rebuilt it black about 1990.

That's me just back from a run and I will now have to call Bennetts on Monday (or Tuesday if shut for Easter) as I now 5039 miles on the clock and I said my expected mileage would be 5000, I still have 4 weekends worth of biking to go before renewal.

There's usually a little knurled thing on the end of the cable by the front wheel spindle you can undo to stop the speedo spinning.

Well that's what my RD125 had anyway...

I recall my dad with an electric drill winding on the milage of his work escort van to match his fuel consumption

Mines up for renewal. Currently with and NEVER to be again MCE....

Bought Tiger last yr, insured with MCE, didnt have my reg transfered at time, rang them 4days later, to be told it was going to be a 75quid admin charge. I only paid £115 FC for year.
Told them to stick it and Id cancel under the 14day cool down. They backed down, but altered the T&C. This yr my quote is £375. They can go .....

I was considering it but sods law would say I need to make a claim and they have a get out and I am left without cover. I have looked up and it seems £32 admin fee for changes to policy which I don't fancy paying but we will see what they say, going to ask them how hard and fast the expected mileage is, maybe 500 over will be ok.
