Just introducing myself.
I've just got meself a recon Cosmo 130 amp DP setup to do some patching on my Land Rover. Always wanted to learn so now is as good a time as any!
Picked the best vehicle to practice on!
At least everything just unbolts on them.
Couple of quick tips ive learnt from welding up on Land Rovers.......
If you need to change the rear cross member, unbolt the body from the back of it and you can jack up the body quite alot to give you room to weld......... remember to open the front doors before jacking it up though!
The wiring for the back lights etc all runs through the chasis itself....... if you're doing any patching work on the chasis, remember where the wires are!
Front outrigger bolts nearly never come out whole......... be prepared for half a day of buggering around trying to get them out!
my landy is a Disco so I get a different set of problems! And living over here in Ireland I also dont get the salty roads in the winter - and that really does make a difference.
got the welder as I have a couple of holes in the cills to patch, a known weak point, but at least they are not that structural so I can wait for a bit til it warms up.
I've yet to try it out as everytime I say to myself I'm going out to play the heavens open! BTW me sheds too small and combustible to try it out in there!
Have considered the possibility of constructing a new shed with a steel box section frame, then panels bolted to this. Should be strong enough with a few bracing sections in to have shelving as well.
ahh, the plans of world domination flourish!!
