50 thou with the right feed and speed and no flex
Interesting. I never tried cheese in mine.

try harder with with steel -then it works wonders i built a 6inch belt sander on mine-the 3x6inch -wheels were turned- from solid -and bored out to fit the shafts and bearings on it -Interesting. I never tried cheese in mine.
no think about what i said speed and feed of tool on smaller diameter bar. u can drill a half inch hole down a sollid bar with just a small pilot drill. the turnings off the drill come out in a long continuous coil without breaking just measure the with of the cut and u will see what can be done with right feed and speed without straining the machineYou were taking 50 thou cuts off of a three inch steel shaft - on an ML7?
didnt u ever -part anything off in the myford eg- inch bar. think of the with of the tool it can be- 1/8th inch wide thats- 125 thou then feed it in-and cut . not a problem if u get speed -and feed rite i now have a harison as well and used to do machining on a dean smith and grace at college -so -have had a -lot of practice on diffrent size machinesI can drill a half inch hole with a drill.
What I said was not only are you working with smaller pieces on a small lathe, you're also making smaller cuts so jobs take longer. You said you were making 50 thou cuts on a Myford and, since I used to own one myself, I find that highly dubious.
Having said that I have no doubt whatsoever there are people out there who can do more with their hobby lathes than I will ever do with all the equipment at my disposal.
What I lack in skill I make up for by having more stuff.
whateverAlright brightspark, you can take a 50 thou cut on a Myford. If you redefine what is meant by taking a cut.
You can quit backtracking and move forwards now. 10 thou at a time...
Funny, I manage all my motorcycle projects on a super seven without problems.
Skimmed many motorcycle brake drums. Did my can am project last year front and rear funny enough. Tight squeeze granted, but did the job with mm to spare.Sure you can, but youd struggle to skim the bore of a brake drum, with out relacing the wheel if spoked. Not so good for holding trike half car, half bike props in a steady either. Tractor parts tend not to fit either
A gap bed is a wonderful thing on the odd occassion you need to use it.
Their size is their limitation, other than that not a bad small machine.
