I do wonder about how much breathing with your mouth open increases the risk of lung cancer by?

With the attitudes towards dust, smoking and fumes over the last 60-70 years I’m amazed basesd on this new research that any population has survived!

I try and wear a mask at all times same with decent ear defenders as my tinnitus is becoming more frequent even from hammering

Iv never smoked so hopefully that should stop a bit of the on set

Ive always thought that fume simply has to be harmful so Ive always done my best to avoid as much as I could. Ive been in some welding shops where you could see the divide. I was only there a short time but the guys working in that 8 hours a day....makes you wonder

Its another one thats a cost issue.....fume extraction and PPE cost money with no short term pay back.....Accountants dont consider the loss of a good welder as a cost benefit. I was happy when the Insurance companies got involved, after an American won a Million in a lawsuit.

I didn't think that the 80's were that long ago either, now I've recently turned that half centaury, I'm thinking that maybe it is.

I am fitter than i was in my thirties for sure i just take longer to heal and far longer to make babies lol

We did loads of noise research and decibel inspections when I was working offshore. The general rule of thumb is that if you have to raise your voice to hold a conversation, over a noise, then it can be damaging your hearing.

The computer room was illegally loud on my ship, though guys had worked for years in it on 12 hour shifts. All the big computers were then put behind a glass wall and then it was surprisingly quiet.

I also worked in big fabrication factories occasionally when I was doing my apprenticeship, and the great pals of smoke rising from stick welders, all around them, was no horrendous, but nobody thought anything of it at the time. And in winter when all the doors were closed to keep the warm in.....
