Hello all i thought i would revitalise the thread.
I crossed the river severn today into England this is where i went first pics are Mike brotherwood's lotus restoration shed in Wiltshire.I went to see a 1958 lotus severn series one which is one owner from new and at 80 years of age he has asked mike to restore it.
The next pics are in Gloucestershire at race retro and air. the spitfire is one pulled out of the river seven after a training accident this company rebuild the engines for the historic flight and make the props as in Guy martins building a spitfire on the telly. Not a bad day out enjoying a glass of wine whilst i post these after all a very full day and it is 5 o'clock somewhere. enjoy

i had full permission to go where and photograph as i pleased. they also restore race cars so there is a fair bit of coming and going. and security well it is tight cameras everywhere and some one on site 24 hours. i did think of pinching an engine but i could not lift it i to me van.

Re Race Retro, can the public (can I?) book tours or walk rounds or do you have a contact there? Sorry if I missed it. I would love to see a Spit being rebuilt. Guy Martin's documentary was enthralling.

As for the engine, Factory 51 in the US is worth a look. They have a lot of Packard 1650 (Merlins under licence) for sale. I emailed a few weeks back and the going rate is $90,000 (£60k) for an engine and $60k (£40k) to restore it to flight-worthy readiness. Still, one can dream!

I was lucky enough to see 18 Spitfires airborne last summer at the Duxford event. Absolutely magical.

Anyway, back to the amazing work done in the sheds! Thanks!
