Maybe someone should explain to those members under 50 what a mangle is!

Those drill sharpeners are really fiddly to use & very hard to get consistent results with. I have mine solidly mounted to an adjustable plate beside the grinder but there is still too much play in the mechanism. I have one of the Lidl diamond sharpeners & I can get superb results from it.

I was taught to never to use the side of a bench grinding wheel, I'll stick to sharpening them by hand, I'm reasonably okay at it for the most common sizes I use 3mm to 12mm, less than that I tend to just get a new bit and bigger sizes might take me a couple of goes to get it right. I used to work with an old boy who could sharpen bits perfectly, the 1/16" bits he did would fly through stainless like it was cheese.


As much as I dislike seeing anything thrown out I will now not be saving it from the bin if/when the boss decides to sling it then.

@Alan Reynolds don't bother with the instructions, the consensus is it's not worth the trouble.
