It does disengage, you can see the one way drive on the spindle in the photo. I can't see how you'd tap with it though, you couldn't reverse it due to the one way drive and there surely isn't enough space to fit a reversing tapping head on one of the chucks? Lovely piece of kit though. Unlike a capstan, it looks like you could twist it either way, so if you were only using two or three tools you wouldn't have to cycle it all the way round to get to the next one.Its a carousel for rapid tool changing for a dp as above, and when you have to make more than about 10 of something, the need for it becomes very clear indeed. Drill, counterbore, relief, tap with a tapping head etc without even having to stop the spindle as it probably disengages the spindle drive when the dp retracts too. Id rehome it if the circumstances fitted.
I'd rather not risk it on an order that size. Could work out fine but something tells me to steer clear. Shame as it looks super tidy.

I thought my boc adr 375 was bad enough. To run it flat out I would have had to pay for a replacement 3 phase transformer for the local substation, as apparently it couldnt cope with the amperage draw it wanted, and it kept flipping out the breaker on my supply on the inrush current just to saturate the transformer core despite dicking round with chokes and start up circuits etc.Not very often you see a rating plate that says 300-1500 Amp at 100% duty cycle.
Or 187 amps mains input current!
Bargain there for someone in need of a big SAW or gouging set.
