The daughters in Law Seat Altea decided to throw a ABS warning light and the reader flagged the right rear sensor. Hard defect as it would not clear. Bought a sensor and its a one allen head screw which came out nice and easy. I pulled on the old sensor and gave it a slight twist either way to loosen any corrosion on the mounting plate and out it came. Or so I thought, because it did not, as it left half of it behind. I could see where it had failed as there was green copper mold on the middle so I think it failed there and lost continuity. Now the stub axle is a nightmare for access and I could just about see the remains at the bottom of the sensor behind the dust shield. It would not budge with long nosed pliers and so I thought I would remove all the gubbins to get at it. Caliper and its carrier, brake disc, hub with bearing and then the dust shield. I mentioned this on the Seat forum and a member mentioned that the sensors are supplied in a new stub axle along with the bearing, or so he was told by a garage, as they are not replaceable on the car. Has anybody come across this on these cars. I had not started stripping it down as I found the caliper carrier was held on using bolts with heads that required a M14 spline 12 point drive bit which of course I did not have. Any other bit yes but not this one. They look like Torx bits but with more splines. So for now I have told her to use it as the "normal brakes" are fine until I find out what is what. Its a 2004 model by the way 1.6 petrol fwd.
