My 290 lookalike has broke!….

The vfd has failed with a message O-volt, which is indicative of high dc bus volts..

I though it may have been down to the atmosphere in the garage, but after a period in the warm, no difference…

A call to Invertek may result in something positive I hope..,otherwise it’s another £200 for a replacement..

I would definitely go for the 200...
No headache, stress or problems.

All the time, does it allow motor to run?

If its only faulting when the motor stops?
It may be that you no longer have a breaking resistor connected and if its trying to use it, then it will fault. Loose connection, or config change?
Could also be if the ramp time is set faster or you have a lot more weight/energy in the chuck, that it now needs a resistor.

Thought I'd update on this....

After several futile attempts to revive the poorly inverter, including resetting the settings to factory default, I've ordered a new one from Inverter drive supermarket....the WEG one..

The Invertek replacement was coming in at £188, given their lack of enthusiasm to help, I decided to go elsewhere..

Hopefully this one will last me...

Just to conclude this thread:

I decided I wanted to have the usual Stop/Run functions from dedicated switches, along with Fwd/Rev and a Jog facility….,

While both inverters offer this functionality it is achieved in different ways….

The WEG vfd accepts the usual non latching style of switch on all inputs and switches the Ov to the digital inputs, whereas the Invertek switches a 24v supply…..

The WEG inverter was easy to implement for the S/R function by using a N/O N/C pair of switches, the F/R using a N/O switch and the same for the Jog ….but the Invertek needed an interposing relay for the S/R function and N/O switches for F/R and Jog…..

Obviously the relevant inputs on the vfd had to be set in the software to be effective…

Both. I’ll and lathe work as I want now with the added bonus of a Jog switch for screw cutting if needed ( or any other slow speed work )
