Angle Grinder recomendations?

I need a decent small angle grinder, 115mm size discs, i am tired of cheap chinese crap that lasts 5 minutes & expires. I have just started a large GRP repair job & want a decent tool that wont go pop at the first breath of fibreglass dust!
By the way i wear a first class respirator the grinder doesnt!
Any recomendations?

makita are nice. look at the motor wattage on them when buying one .higher the better

Bosch blue (GWS.....) or Hitachi are the only ones that seem to last for us.
Dont be tempted by the £35 ones, sounds like you need a heavy duty one, expect £80+ ish.

I have had both the Bosch and Makita and found the Makita better for comfort in the hand and I do have large hands. But both are very good grinders.

I bought a Makita 9557NB a little while ago - seems pretty good. Solidly made, nice feel (maybe a bit heavy), plenty of power. I think I read that it was British made. My original 4" grinder was a Black and Decker from their industrial range, bought about 30 years ago - seen some abuse and still going strong!!

If you want a no frills hard working grinder I'd recommend having a look at the SITE range from Screwfix. I've got several and have generally given them a fair bit of greif cutting up car chassis. I'm not a pro user, just heavy DIY, but so far they have been great.

They're made in the same factory as Makita (same motor ratings, casings etc. just a different colour and branding) and so far I have been impressed. Got my last one on offer for £22 bargain!

I bought a black and decker grinder in B & Q 11 years ago and its never give a minutes bother, haven't even changed the brushes . Its wire brushed 4 tractors and countless other jobs.

Thanks gents, best one i have had was an AEG so may go that route again,The dust kills the things though unless you blow them out with the airline every day.
I feel a visit to the tool shop coming on!

If you have an airline ,have you considered an air grinder?.......if your compressor is big enough

Some of them have very in direct vents which seems to keep an amount of dust out of teh workings.

I don't know about the 115mm grinders, but I have had a blue Bosch 100mm one for donkeys years and it has never given me a moments trouble. It has been used more for grinding than cutting, and more often than not under some rusty old car, so it has had more than it's fair share of dust and **** over it.

The old thing I have ever done to it is to fit a longer cable, and (as somebody else mentioned earlier) it still using the original brushes.

I have to say it is a noisy little ****** though! Maybe a good clean out and re-grease would be a good idea!

if you really struggle with dust & failures get a 5", they cost a fair bit more but are designed a lot more robustly, hire companies like them for mortar joint rakers

Makita seems to be the local hire firms choice in 5"

metabo is real good gear i have a few of there drills had them years. also have one o there twin blade diamond cutters

I think Milwaukee is one of the best, I changed from Makita and Aeg a year ago and have had no probs at all. I Bought 4 2 x 9" and 2 x 4 1/2. Excellent machines
