angle grinder purchase

I have an old bosch grinder and when using thin 1mm cutting discs it doesnt fully clamp down on them so i have to use a washee. This stops them sitting centrally on the hub and the discs often end up wearing unevenly or tearing away from the metal centre.
Im looking at replacing it so if anyone has any suggestions on models that would be appreciated.

I have a few, but dewalt, or bosch (BLUE) are realy good cant fault the bosch blue i assume urs is green ?

With 1mm discs you need to put the centre on upside down. All new grinders are like this too.

Don't buy a cheapo screw fix one, my latest lasted 1 week:

Agreed, cant go wrong with bosch blue in 110 (dosent realy matter but its my prefrance)

Are you using the right washers, the often have a sheet of push-out card washers in the box... shouldnt stop them sitting central though.... the washer goes on the nut side, not the gearbox side....in most cases anyway. Does the back nut have a lip around it?

The back nut has a raised section on it to align discs centrally. The raised bit is deeper than the 1mm discs so it doesnt clamp tight enough and they slip.
The one i have is a bosch blue (well the bodys blue) id guess it was 15 years or do old as i inherited it off my dad quite a few years back and hes had it as long as i can remember.

use a bosch at the workshop and not much difference between it and the makita tbh

There should be a reassess in the nut so the two clamping faces touch. you could always try buying a new nut before shelling out for a new grinder, before buying anything have you tied the nut both ways round?

Yup. Bottom nut only gos on one way. I will have a look around for a replacement nut set.

as Biffa said, the (top) nut should be recessed on one side but i have had that problem as well with thin discs on certain grinders and i have used a really worn disc as the washer but make your life easier and get a 'quick nut' or 'speed nut' as well - no tools required.

Like i said its a very old grinder now. The top nut is raised on one side(which makes the problem worse) and flat on the other. no recess on it at all.
I`l look at those speed nuts as im always mislaying the tool aswell

i have loads of assorted grinder nuts, if i can help you out, and you can tell me exactly what size you need.

i have 6 crates of Hitachi and Bosch grinder and drill parts i got from a tool hire place that went bust. I have free grinders for life !

Hitachi, just bought another two after blowing up 2 drapers.. these are lightweight and plenty powerful enough!

Oh, and i forgot to mention, they are only around £30.

Got a bosch grinder for work and recently bought a new makita one for the workshop,
what i do like about the makita is it comes with a decent length mains cable and its the good quality soft cable that always stays straight.

I still rate my Metabo, good power and cable length and long warranty.

Ive got 5X makitas 9" AND 3X 4.5" had them for about 25 yrs their still going I put brushes in one the other day first set I've fitted for years and one 9" I converted to 12" for thin disc cut off work and never had a problem. The best thing about makita is you can get every bit for them for years.
But used a bosch 9" (blue) for a day at a friends with quite a few diff discs and could'nt feel my left hand the next day !!
