Angle Grinder on other materials?

I've only ever used angle grinders on steel but I've got some lumps of aluminium that I could do with cutting up.

Are there any issues with using an angle grinder on Ali?

they will cut but the ally beds in melts onto the cutting disk then overheats

I believe aluminium can react with rust and catch fire when heated, giving you a mains powered Catherine wheel.

Use seperate wheels for ally and steel to be on the safe side.

your right there it tends to run a small blue whitish flame round the disk

You can buy aluminium cutting discs. Screwfix do them i think, amongst others probably.

As stone disc works pretty well on ally. Fibre type, not diamond.

screwfix do em for stone steel and stainless steel there aluminium oxide disks

if u are cutting aluminium plate eg no guilotine use a circular saw with a fine hss blade if u are just grinding rough welds off use die grinder with carbide domed cutter
