Hey folks.
I discovered a new thing today, to my cost, then not. I thought I might share this pearl of wisdom with those of you who don't already know.
Yesterday my trusty, faithful DeWalt angle grinder packed up. Just stopped, mid grind. I've had grinders die on me before, usually from overheating, burning up the windings or the commutator, running out of brush etc. But they usually give some warning. Not this time.
So I took the back off, quick visual check. Brushes there etc, everything looked fine, it wouldn't work, I was busy, so down to M/c Mart for a nice new Makita.
I mentioned the dead grinder to the Polish guy at work (he can do EVERYTHING), who said in his broken English to show him (sorry, he can do everything except speak English, which is to his advantage as he can't understand the rubbish the rest of us talk). He had a look, back off, whipped out the brushes and removed the annoying little plastic spring thing which stops the grinder from working when the brushes wear down, and which saves the commutator.
Bu99er!
So now I have 2 angle grinders, and Pawel the Pole has a nice new multi head mini screwdriver.
See ya!
