Angle grinder help.

One thing you should be clear on is that only discs with reinforcement in should be used on hand operated grinders (i.e angle grinders). The non reinforced type are not permitted, if you have some for a cut off saw dont' use them in your angle grinder!!

Well now I'm having another grinder problem. It worked fine yesterday but now it trips the breaker when I try to use it it trips the breaker. I've got a B16 breaker and I assume I need a C or D curve breaker, to install one of these to I just need an electrician to swap the breaker or will I need fatter cables ect.

Grinders are designed to run off ordinary domestic supplies, so if your machine is knocking out trips then it has a problem, uprating the breaker is not the answer, best to get get the grinder and any extension lead its plugged into checked out.

It think we have a little bit of confusion here Scott, I was talking about angle grinder cutting discs (often called slitting discs)
They are reinforced, but the reinforcement is quite a bit finer than standard type angle grinder discs, and come with a metal centre.

I can picture the sort of disc I think you mean Scott, unreinforced, with no centre ring. Quite rightly a blotter would be used on ones like that... and hopefully no one would dream of fitting one of them to an angle grinder!

An elastic wheel is another name for a surface grinder cutting wheel if that's what scott was referring to. They have a very soft bonding material almost like rubber. With no reinforcement the wheel is supported by the material you are cutting.

A heavy 9" grinder is not a domestic tool, it has an inrush current that could well exceed what a B type breaker can accommodate. I'd suggest that both the supply and the tool want checking over.

A 230 volt 2500 watt grinder should only draw just under 11 amps, but we don't know how tired the breaker is, how hard he's leaning on the grinder (could be drawing more than double that amperage once the speed has dropped by 25%), and what sort of inrush is the tool taking?

Maybe the grinder only runs correctly with the nut the other way around? :P
