just use lithium grease too, not too much, but then again I clean mine fairly regularly, not through choice, but the Skil grinders (I have 6) switches are a really poor design, and stick fairly regularly so have them apart often enough to free the sticking switches.

shame the switches are cack, the skil grinders are light, confortable and powerful... hence why I still keep them.

+1 on this, have a 4.5 inch Skil and to be honest I'd never look at another brand.

On the topic of grease I personally find that if it's done on a fairly regular basis then virtually any grease will do.. Little and often.

I used to repair and hire out power tools the 900 kango hammers wouldn't work properly when they were cold and when hot they wouldn't work at all as the grease melted .just use the proper stuff unless u know something more than the manafacturers

There's a slight problem (well two actually) with relying on manufactures using the best for their products:
1. Cost
2. Built in obsolescence.

The factory grease normally has a blend of relatively low melting point lubricants, the theory being no matter what grease you use the centrifugal forces will soon throw it clear of the gears.
So you need something that will re melt at low working temp in use to coat the lowest point when the tool is warm after work. When re started next this will again be thrown off, coating enough of the gears each time to provide lubrication.

This is my thinking too hence suggesting ordinary grease - one of the very few times I wouldn't go for a good quality higher melting point grease instead.

You don't want that smelly stuff running down your arm when it gets warm. I did put stern tube grease in a drill gearbox once, it died not long after!

My Chinese Aldi drill was well greased when I bought it but after it stood for a couple of months over winter it refused to run stalling the motor. I tried to turn the chuck by hand and it was solid. I dismantled it and the grease had all set rock hard I had to melt it out with a hot air gun and replaced it with the LM I use for everything.
