T'other day i was cutting some steel (max 5mm thick x 50mm bars and angle) in half to fit it in the shed, using one of those ultra thin cutting discs on the (115mm) angle grinder,
second cut the disc flew apart when i turned the grinder on, bits of disc bounced off my visor that i was wearing for once (because i had about 5 cuts to do, if just one i'd likely not have bothered... i will from now on)
It was then that i remembered that abrasive discs have dates on them, all my thin cutting discs were dated 2015, i found some wider cutting discs that were dated 2013.
I must have bought these discs when i last went to the newark autojumble, in about 2014.
So i ordered some bits for my lathe from ArcEuroTrade, and decided to add some cutting discs to the order.
Got them today and the 2 thin cutting discs are dated 2019, the thicker cutting discs are dated 2022.
So, have i bought out of date discs? or is it like best before dates and there's a bit of leeway... i know it isn't an exact science when the glues that hold the abrasive particles breaks down, and a 1 year out of date disc shouldn't fly apart like a 5 year out of date one did.
It just feels like everything i buy lately has some sort of issue tho. and i'm turning into a victor meldrew.
